The double lock feature allows you to simultaneously lock the doors from the outside and the inside.
The double lock feature is intended as an anti-theft system. When enabled, the double lock system activates a few seconds after the car is locked from the outside. Once the car is double-locked, it can't be unlocked from the inside.
Locking always arms the alarm. Therefore, attempts to unlock the car from inside when the double lock feature is activated trigger the alarm.
Warning
Volvo recommends not leaving people or pets in a locked car. By allowing occupant locking it will be possible to lock the car even when it has detected people or pets inside. Certain car systems will remain active and the car doors can still be opened from inside. The driver remains responsible for the well-being and safety of anyone left in the car. Some regions have laws prohibiting people or pets being left inside a locked vehicle.
Occupant detection
By default, the car alerts you when it suspects that there are occupants in the car when locking. When this happens, the car will not activate the double lock. This is intended to help you be more aware of and responsibly use double locking. You can turn occupant detection off in the locking settings.
Note
The double lock function cannot be enabled at the same time as the reduced alarm sensitivity function.
Tip
If the double lock is not enabled but occupants still can't exit the car, check that the child lock is disabled. Your car is equipped with a double-pull safety feature on the doors. When the child lock is active, the double-pull feature doesn't work for the rear doors as they can't be opened.
